LEWISTON – Jean Nielsen of Common Ties Mental Health Services of Lewiston was awarded certification in intentional peer support by the state Office of Consumers Affairs of the Department of Health and Human Services. Nielsen is the program manager for the 100 Pine Street Wellness and Recovery Center, and was the first peer center program supervisor in the state of Maine to complete the college level training.
Intentional peer support is a peer services oriented philosophy focusing on problem solving and what peers don’t want in their lives.
The 100 Pine Street Wellness and Recovery Center is a peer-directed resource for adults who are recovering from a mental health illness and is an example of peer support at work.
