1932 – 2016

WESTBROOK — Jean E. Griffin, 84, died Thursday, Sept. 15, at the Springbrook Center in Westbrook.

Born in Rumford, on July 21, 1932, she was a daughter of Arthur and Bertha (Henry) Wing. She was a graduate of Stephens High School, Class of 1949. For a short time, she worked at the Rumford Community Hospital as a cook and baker in the dietary department. She also worked at the Madison Motel in Rumford as a chamber maid and also for the Rumford Group Home.

Jean was a former member of the Sugarloaf Grange in Dixfield and also a member and very active in the Virgin Memorial Chapel of the United Methodist Church in Rumford. Jean dedicated much of her time to raising her four children. She adored spending time with her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and a very special nephew, Duane Miller.

She was married in Rumford on April 4, 1950, to H. Edward Griffin who died in Shelton, Conn., on Dec. 31, 1954.

Survivors include her three daughters, Susan Griffin of Old Orchard Beach, Esther Griffin of Westbrook, Candice Tutlis and husband, Steve, of Rumford; a son, Edward Griffin of Westbrook; eight grandchildren, Tonya Carlton and husband, Geoff, of Lee, N.H., George Davis of Windham, Stephanie Briggs and husband, Brian, of Limerick, Thomas Griffin of Sweet Home, Ore., Daniel Davis and wife, Caitlin, of Westbrook, Melissa Tutlis of Limerick and her partner, Dan Newell, Carrie Galster of Sweet Home, Ore., Julia Griffin of Salem, Ore.; and 14 great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her parents; her husband; two sisters, Lucy Edwards and Geneva Raymond; and a brother, Cole Wing.
