1928 – 2016
AUBURN — Georgiana Theresa (Alexopoulos) Lagassey, 88, passed away peacefully Thursday, Sept. 22, at the Hospice House of Androscoggin Home Care and Hospice.
She was born in Central Falls, R.I., on March 1, 1928, the loving daughter of James and Dora (Argencourt) Alexopoulos.
Georgiana moved from Rhode Island to Maine in 1930 and remained here for the rest of her life. On Sept. 27, 1947, she married Paul Emile Ayotte. They shared a loving marriage of 31 years, until Paul’s passing. Together they had six children, and she later married Gilbert Lagassey, until his passing.
In her younger years, she enjoyed dancing with friends and family and never said no to a day of adventure in the great outdoors, climbing Tumbledown at 61 years old. Georgiana was a devout Christian who liked playing cards, especially cribbage. She also enjoyed playing Scrabble (until Words With Friends came out). She would often be seen doing crossword puzzles, and when they were finished, she was known to have a doodle drawn over her completed puzzle. Another hobby of hers was scrapbooking.
A perfect day for Georgiana would be a lobster feed, because that would mean that all of the family would be together and that’s what meant most to her.
She is survived by her two sons, Paul Ayotte Jr. and his wife Wendy, of Turner, and Gerard Ayotte and his wife, Patricia, of Lisbon; her four daughters, Bernadette (Bunny) Boisvert of Lewiston, Pauline Ayotte of Lewiston, Patricia and her husband, Gaetan Bolduc, of Greene, and Louise and her husband ,Paul Ragon, of Limestone, Tenn.; her sister, Alice Morang; her nine grandchildren, Michelle, Jennifer, Christy, Angela, Nicholas, Crystal, Melanie, Tracey and Jessica; and her 13 great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her parents; her first husband, Paul Emile Ayotte; her second husband, Gilbert Lagassey; her sisters, Eva, Florence, Helen and Irene; and her brothers, Louie, Arthur and Jimmy.
The family would like to thank all of the caring and compassionate people at the acute inpatient rehabilitation at Central Maine Medical Center, the skilled therapy staff at d’Youville Pavilion, the staff at St. Mary’s, and the staff at Androscoggin Home Care and Hospice.
Friends and family are invited to share their memories and offer their condolences by visiting Georgiana’s online guest book at www.thefortingroupauburn.com.
