1944 – 2016

LEWISTON — Timothy Joseph Flynn, 72, died peacefully Friday evening, Sept. 23, with close family by his side at Central Maine Medical Center.

He was born in Lewiston on April 12, 1944, the son of the late Raymond and Doris (Davis) Flynn. He was educated at Lewiston High School, where he starred in a variety of athletics and graduated in 1962. He then attended St. Francis Xavier University in Nova Scotia.

Tim worked in a variety of construction jobs prior to becoming a foreman at International Paper in Jay for more than 20 years. A reliable and dedicated worker, he was often a go-to resource for his ability to troubleshoot problems and for his vast knowledge of the mill.

A lifelong resident of Lewiston, Tim was a member of the Catholic church and attended St. Joseph’s. Tim was a larger-than-life, affable and gregarious man. He cherished his children, and was always willing to volunteer his time to local youth sports and fundraising events. He enjoyed professional sports, playing cards, harness racing, and most of all, he loved to socialize and share memories with friends and family. He was a storyteller extraordinaire complete with gesticulations and sound effects. He had an uncanny ability to provide reassurance and encouragement in the most difficult of circumstances and was always an ear to bend. He was a kind and gentle soul who sought to provide support to those he cared about. His lasting legacy will be how his friendship and generosity made a lifelong impact on so many people.

He is survived by his brother, David A. Flynn and wife, Jane, of Lyman; children, Wendy A. Flynn of Portland, and Stephen J. Flynn of Auburn; former spouse and mother of his children, Jacqueline A. (Bishop) Flynn of Auburn; three nieces and five nephews.

He was predeceased by his brother, Michael; and sister, Patricia Swett.

The family would like to especially thank the caring and compassionate staff at the Marshwood Center Transitional Care Unit and housing division for the comfort they provided Tim over the past year. He connected with them as though they were family.
