UPDATE: Police: Lewiston man found

LEWISTON — Police on Friday night were searching for a missing MacSullivan Street man who was last seen entering the woods at the end of Jenkins Street earlier in the day.

Claude Hopkins, 64, is described as white, about 5 feet, seven inches tall and weighing about 175 pounds. He was wearing a blue shirt and red shorts and carrying a colostomy bag when he was last seen, police said.

Police ask that if he is seen that no one approach him but call 911 immediately. Police described Hopkins as having intellectual disabilities and worry he may be uncooperative with strangers.

By 9 p.m. Friday, police, firefighters and searchers from the Maine Warden Service were set up on both sides of the reservoir between the dead-end sections of East Avenue and Jenkins Street.

Searchers were combing the woods in and around Thorncrag Bird Sanctuary and additional search dogs were being sent to the area.

Police were particularly concerned with finding Hopkins quickly as temperatures were expected to dip down into the mid-40s overnight.

Anyone with information was asked to call the Lewiston Police Department at 1-207-784-6421.
