Part of the interest from a trust fund held by the town of Mechanic Falls will be added to monies being assembled for renovating the deteriorating Civil War monument on downtown Elm Street. Half of the accrued interest of $1,200, or $600, has been authorized by the Town Council to assist in the project, which is being spearheaded by American Legion Post No. 150 and a citizens committee. The project primarily involves straightening the stance of a backward-leaning uniformed Civil War soldier atop the 30-foot memorial.
