AUGUSTA (AP) — Officials in Kennebec County are revising plans to expand an Augusta jail after bids on the project came in at amounts that were higher than expected.
The Kennebec Journal (http://bit.ly/2fvLf8h ) reported that the bids for converting an indoor recreation space into a two-story space that would house 21 inmates at the Kennebec County Correctional Facility ranged from $784,700 to $937,500. Officials had expected amounts ranging from $125,000 to $250,000.
The bids also offered completion schedules with timeframes that were longer than the county anticipated.
County Administrator Robert Devlin said county commissioners were expected to consider the bids at their Tuesday meeting. But that decision will likely be delayed.
The money to build the project is coming from the jail’s capital improvement fund.
