CHINA (AP) — An international conservation organization says a proposed agreement to take down an aging mill and install a passageway in its adjoining dam to allow imperiled fish species such as Atlantic salmon to pass through is expected to be signed later this week.
The Morning Sentinel (http://bit.ly/2eTRcdZ ) reported that the Atlantic Salmon Federation is negotiating with the owners of the 200-year-old Dinsmore Dam — also known as the Branch Pond Mill — on an agreement to buy the China property.
The owners, Christine and Steven Coombs, began making repairs after the state Department of Environmental Protection issued a permit by rule in May to lower the dam’s water level.
Andrew Goode, the federation’s vice president of U.S. programs, says they plan to have a contractor take the mill down in January.
