AUBURN – Safe Handling Inc., a logistics, materials distribution and chemical manufacturing company in Auburn, has successfully completed a 4-day independent audit for environmental management certification.

According to Safe Handling President Ford Reiche, “It’s important to realize that we not only earned ISO14001 certification, but at the same time we gained our responsible care certification. The combination is called RC14001. ISO14001 addresses environmental management systems, and responsible care is an American Chemistry Council management system certification that addresses environmental, health, safety, and security issues. The RC14001 combination is a fairly new standard, and we understand that we are the first Maine-owned company and among the first 225 in the world to earn this combined certification.”

Safe Handling was founded in 1989 in Auburn and employs nearly 100 people. Safe Handling operates a 200-acre rail-to-truck transload yard, and a 100,000-square-foot warehouse and toll processing facility in Auburn.
