LEWISTON – Beacon Hospice Inc., which serves patients out of its Lewiston office, has honored Sheila McAllister, CNA, of Market Square Health Care Center in Paris, along with Sylvie Thibault, RN, Therese Howell, CNA, and the 4-West Team of D’Youville Pavilion nursing home in Lewiston with the 2007 Excellence in End-of-Life Care Award.

With the award, Beacon Hospice salutes and honors caregivers for their work, commitment and delivery of the highest quality end-of-life care services to their patients.

The caregivers are seen as hospice care champions and active advocates for quality end-of-life care by their peers.

They were nominated and chosen to receive the award because of their ability to communicate with sensitivity to their patients and their loved ones by listening carefully, showing empathy and instilling a sense of hope; respecting their patients’ values, cultures, choices and decisions; understanding the significance of a patient’s family and community; and advocating for high quality end-of-life care.
