Former TV psychic medium John Edward logged 75 tour stops giving group readings around the globe in 2016. In 2017, he’s coming back to Maine with appearances in Bangor on March 2 and Portland on March 3.

The 47-year-old author of eight bestselling novels splits his time between New York and Los Angeles with his wife and two children.

Heading into the New Year, we asked about the most memorable reading he’s ever given — fair warning, it’s pretty, well, weird — and Edward offered a prediction about President-elect Donald Trump that he’s never shared anywhere else.

It’s pretty, well, you’ll just have to read it.

You logged 75 tour stops in 32 states and five countries in the last 12 months. How do you keep at it?

JE: I kind of love it. I thought maybe about 10 years ago, “I’m just going to go to LA, Seattle, Dallas, Miami, New York and then people will find me there.” And then I went, “Nah, I’m just going to do New York and Vegas.” I did that and it didn’t make any sense because there were no ticket sales in New York and Vegas. And when I tell you no tickets, no tickets were selling.

Finally, my wife was looking at me and she goes, “You know, sometimes I just don’t get you. It’s not about you, it’s about the people. You’re trying to help them navigate their grief. You want these people to come find you? That’s kind of selfish.” And I’ve never forgotten that.

What’s the most common message spirits want delivered?

JE: That they’re OK, that they’re still with us. That they see what’s happening in our lives. Don’t worry about us, worry about you. That and to make sure you . . . leave people better than you find them.

Who are the spirits that surround you?

JE: They’re all around me, to be honest. It’s more like who I don’t feel; I have a couple cousins that I don’t feel from time to time. But, yeah, I’m pretty plugged in with my own peeps. I wouldn’t use them (for advice), no offense to my family. I have a really good relationship with my own (spirit) guides.

You’re alone in an elevator with a stranger. Someone from their life is instantly, suddenly coming through. Do you tell them?

JE: No. You never engage someone psychically unless you’ve been invited to do so. It’s kind of of an unethical thing — you don’t enter someone’s vibration without their permission. Like you wouldn’t touch somebody without their permission, same thing. It’s just not energetically cool.

I had a meeting, a celebrity friend made me go with them to their agent. The agent was skeptical and 45 minutes into the meeting said, “So, like, while we’re sitting here, you don’t get anything on me?” I said, “Nope. You’d have to give me permission.” He gave me permission. I gave him a bunch of information that startled him.

He looked at me, “Just like that? We’re sitting here for 45 minutes and nothing and in 32 seconds you get all that information?” I went, “Pretty much. Let’s look at it this way: We came into your office and you took me to the right and we sat on your couch, but over there is your desk and your computer’s on, right? How would you feel if I walked into your office and I walked behind your desk and I started to read your emails?” And he goes, “Like you were violating my privacy?” I went, “Exactly. You just asked me, sitting here, to go up and read your emails. You gave me permission. That’s the difference.”

You joked when we spoke four years ago about not seeing President Barack Obama win the election. Did you see a Donald Trump victory?

JE: I actually did, (but) I don’t know if I can take credit for this and I’ll tell you why: There’s an astrologer, her name is Maggie Kerr and she is from Australia, and she did a blog about a year ago. She started talking about the collective consciousness of the planet globally and how organizations and systems that were in place, parties and governmental things, needed to be broken. It had a very — and she’s brilliant — but it had a little crazy conspiracy theory kind of vibe.

And then Brexit happened. . . . That, for me, was the moment of wow, he could really win this. There’s a force behind this and he could be the tool for collective change within the astrological zeitgeist that Maggie was talking about.

I tape a show called “Evolve” online and I actually knew — because he was going to win — that there was going to be election depression, so I brought on a grief therapist that dealt with depression and did a whole thing about election depression. We taped it in July.

When we have all sorts of unrest/anxiety on this side, does that cause any unrest/anxiety on the other side or are the dead much more chill?

JE: I don’t think there’s unrest for them, I think there’s awareness. They see what’s coming.

What’s the most unique message you’ve delivered?

JE: I can give you one that’s very salty. There was a man who had a prosthetic of his penis made for his wife because he traveled quite a bit and he wanted to make sure if anything ever happened to him, he would still be able to be with her from the other side. That was in Texas, Fort Worth, I believe. She (the man’s wife) was in the room and she was like, “I understand that, he did do that and yes, I do have that specific thing.” The entire room was like, “Ooooh!”

Any thoughts/predictions/feelings for 2017?

JE: I hate to say it, but I think there’s a lot of chaos. I feel a lot of infighting. I’m excited for what Donald Trump may bring because I know that he represents change, but I do not like him as a person for what he’s shown and the fact that I have to have a conversation with my daughter about etiquette between a man and a woman in a way that maybe at 10 I wasn’t really ready to have. Not comfortable.

I kind of quietly wish that I could be on his counsel and be like, “Dude, here’s the deal: We need to get you a team of astrologers. You need to understand: here’s how all this interplays here. And maybe drop your Twitter.” But at the same time, I understand why he’s tweeting, because if he doesn’t feel like he’s being covered in the media truthfully. It’s his way of communicating. I’m such a Libra, I can argue both sides.

I haven’t said this publicly, (but in) 18 months — I don’t know if it’s 18 months from when he was voted in or 18 months after he’s in office — there seems to be a major event. I don’t know what it is, (the spirits) won’t show me. I don’t know if he pays off the debt or he gets impeached, no clue, but I know it’s a door. I see the door, I just can’t see what’s beyond it.
