Updated 7:21 a.m.: Lewiston and Auburn canceled classes and state offices delayed opening as Maine braced for Monday’s snowstorm.
The Maine Turnpike Authority reported overnight crashes at mile markers 44 and 50 on Interstate 95.
Gov. Paul LePage has announced state offices will open at 10 a.m. statewide Monday.
Androscoggin County Superior Court in Auburn will open at 11 a.m. Franklin County Superior Court in Farmington and Oxford County Superior Court in South Paris will open at noon.
“I urge all of you to drive safely as you commute to your destination,” LePage wrote in a statement. “Please remember to keep a safe distance behind other vehicles and give plow trucks plenty of room to operate.”
At about 4:30 a.m., the National Weather Service reported an inch of snow in Gray. From 4 to 8 inches is expected to fall on Androscoggin, Franklin and Oxford counties Monday.
Inland areas will see just snow but coastal area will see the morning snow shift shift to sleet and rain later Monday.
As of Sunday night, the storm had dumped more than a half-foot on several states in the Midwest and Great Lakes regions, causing dangerous travel conditions.
The Chicago area received more than 6 inches as of Sunday night.
Up to 10 inches of snow was expected to fall in parts of Michigan.
The storm will end in the early afternoon, from noon to 2 p.m., in Maine.
The sky will clear for Tuesday as highs rise into the upper 30s, near 40 degrees.
We fall back into the mid 30s on Wednesday.
Another cold blast begins on Thursday with highs in the mid 20s, very windy conditions, and a chance of snow showers.
Friday will be sunny, but frigid with highs in the teens.
