When will young people start learning to be responsible? Recently, I read about how two 14-year-old boys started the big fire in Tennessee that wiped out a whole community.

And what about those people who broke into two barns and scared the cows so badly that one broke its neck? Other people have gone to court to support that soldier who went AWOL in Afghanistan, leaving his fellow soldiers in danger.

And how about the broken windows at the former Forsters Mill on Depot Street in Wilton? What did those windows do to anyone to deserve being broken?

When I worked there, there was a man who tampered with a forklift and when the driver came back to move it, it went backward toward an open elevator. Had he not stopped the machine, he would have gone down the shaft and perhaps died. The person who tampered with the machine got three days off from work. I would have fired him.

Then, at Bass Shoe, there were conveyor belts that were stopped at break time. There was a woman who got up on top and did some fancy moves. Just think of what might have happened if someone had pushed the button to start up the belt again.

Such people always said to me, “The devil made me do it.” Just goes to show what mindless wonders graduate from high school.
