INDUSTRY — The cause of a fire Tuesday night that destroyed a seasonal residence on New Sharon Road will go down as undetermined because of the damage, Fire Chief Kevin Gurney said Wednesday.

State fire investigator Jeremy Damren of the State Fire Marshal’s Office was at the scene Wednesday morning to investigate the cause.

About 40 firefighters from nine departments responded to the report of a fire called in by a passing motorist at about 7:55 p.m.

When firefighters arrived, the garage with an upstairs apartment was fully engulfed in flames, Gurney said.

The owner of the property lives in New York and comes up on weekends, he said. He did not have the owner’s name readily available. Damren contacted the owner, who said the house is insured, Gurney said.

No one was at the residence at the time of the fire. New Sharon Road is off Route 43.

No one was injured while fighting the fire.

Fire departments assisting Industry were Anson, Chesterville, Farmington, Madison, New Sharon, Starks, Temple and Wilton.
