1943 – 2016

AUBURN — William A. Bauer, 73, of Lisbon Falls lost his hard-fought battle with cancer on Thursday, Dec. 29, at the Androscoggin Hospice House. Bill passed comfortably surrounded by family.

He was born in Lewiston on Nov. 13, 1943, the son of William E. and Vertie A. (Patrick) Bauer.

Bill married the love of his life Margaret “Peg” Smith on March 15, 1968.

Bill was a true participant within the Lisbon Community where he resided for most of his life. Bill retired as an educator for the Lisbon school system, coached track, participated in Project Graduation, organized marching practice for graduating students, and taught night school. Bill succeeded his father (William E. Bauer) as water commissioner for the Town of Lisbon. He served for 40 years most of which as the Chairman. Bill was a past master of the Masonic Ancient York Lodge of Lisbon.

Bill enjoyed spending time at their camp on Taylor Pond; being a member of several golf leagues, snowmobiling, boating, traveling and gathering with family and friends. Their favorite destination was Aruba. He and Peg received honorary ambassadorship for their many years on the small island.

Bill is survived by his wife, Peg; his two sons, Ernie and his wife, Brenda, of Wyoming, and Eric and his wife, Nicole, of Lisbon Falls; his two grandsons, Christopher and William; and many cousins.

Bill is predeceased by his father, William E. Bauer; and his mother, Vertie Patrick Bauer.
