1948 – 2017
AUBURN — Les H. McIntyre, 68, of Memorial Drive, Winthrop, died Wednesday, Jan. 11, at the Androscoggin Hospice House in Auburn, after a 2½-year battle with cancer.
He was born in Norwalk, Ohio, on May 28, 1948, the son of Thomas and Florence (Oswald) McIntyre. Les graduated from Mount Vernon Academy in Ohio, and went to work for R.R. Donnelly (a printing company) in Willard, Ohio, until he joined the U.S. Army in 1968. He served his country as a military policeman and was attached to the CIA.
After his military career, Les went back to work for Donnelly’s, and in 1976 was transferred to the Old Saybrook Division in Connecticut.
Les was a builder and carpenter in Connecticut and moved to Maine in 1995. He loved Maine life and living on Maranacook Lake. Many days were spent cruising the lake in his boat or sitting on the deck with his friends, and his faithful companion “Jenny.” He loved working on projects in his shop, turning wooden bowls, or helping friends with their projects.
He was a member of the Alfred Maxwell American Legion Post No. 40 in Winthrop.
He is survived by his wife, Pat McIntyre of Winthrop; a son, Jeff McIntyre of Chandler, Ariz..; a daughter, Jill McIntyre of San Mateo, Calif.; a brother, Paul McIntyre and his wife, Judy, of Springfield, Ohio; his mother-in-law, Dot Vogt of Clinton, Conn.; his stepsons, Alan Page and his life partner, Athena, of Matawan, N.J., Chris Page and his wife, Bela of, Naugatuck, Conn.; brothers-in-law, Bob Vogt of Clinton, Conn., John Vogt of Deep River, Conn., and Tom Vogt of Meriden, Conn.; 10 grandchildren, Michael, Elizabeth, Chris and Matt Page, Shelby and Taylor McIntyre, Hagen, Alec and Kiefer and Chanel. He also leaves behind many nieces and nephews and his best and longtime friend, Doug Striker of Willard, Ohio.
Les was predeceased by his parents; a brother, Roger McIntyre of Norwalk, Ohio; a sister-in-law, Phyllis Vogt; and a brother-in-law, Joe Vogt of Swanzey, N.H.
The family wishes to thank the doctors and staff at the Alfond Center for Cancer, St. Mary’s Hospital and the Hospice House for the love and support they received during Les’s illness.
