1926 – 2017

BELFAST — Arthur Holmes Whitman Jr., 90, of Belfast passed away Saturday, Jan. 7.

He was born May 31, 1926, in Melrose, Mass., to Arthur and Marion Whitman.

Arthur was a member of Veterans for Peace, East Auburn Community Unit, Boy Scouts of America, Americans for Justice in the Middle East, MOFGA and Senior College. He enjoyed gardening, learning and teaching. He worked at Roberts College, UCC Mission in Turkey, American University of Beirut, World Affairs Council of Maine, Maine Organic Farmers and Gardeners, Community Concepts.

Arthur is survived by his son, Alan; granddaughter, Caroline; and daughter, Beth.

He was predeceased by his wife, Marianne; brothers, John, David, Robert and Philip.

He loved and is loved.
