GROVETON, N.H. (AP) – Two companies are proposing a renewable energy park that would include a wood-fired power plant and a biofuels production plant.

The partnership, North Country Renewable Energy, says each year, it would burn 1.2 million tons of whole-tree wood chips and clean biomass materials, such as forest residue, brush, low-grade wood.

It plans to sell the power to the regional electricity grid and to the biofuels plant, where they would make ethanol. Steam from the wood-burning plant also would be sold to the biofuel facility and other customers.

If all goes well, planners hope to begin construction in April 2008 and go into operation about 18 months later.

The companies in partnership are Xgenesys, of Manchester, and Tamarack Energy, a subsidiary of Boston-based consulting firm Haley & Aldrich.
