Geiger School by the numbers

The total floor area of the new Geiger Elementary School is 93,300 square feet. The first floor is 63,700 square feet and the second floor 29,600 square feet.

The school site is 24 acres with about 4 acres of wooded wetlands.

Parking can accommodate 131 cars and the bus loop can accommodate eight school buses.

There are two playgrounds. One is for pre-kindergarten and kindergarten students and is 3,765 square feet in area. The other is for first- through fifth-graders and is 26,750 square feet.

A circular outdoor learning area behind the building is made up of two concentric granite benches. It is 50 feet in diameter, has 185 lineal feet of granite seating and can accommodate up to 120 students.

The clock tower at the main entrance is about 30 feet high. The clock face is made of pre-cast concrete and is 36 inches in diameter.

There are two pre-kindergarten classrooms, four kindergarten classrooms and 24 classrooms for Grades 1 through 5.

There are approximately 130 windows, most of them with operable sashes.

The building has 211door openings with a total of 253 individual door leafs.

A total of 727 lockers are for student use.

Approximately 9,400 ceiling tile and 32,000 pounds of metal acoustical ceiling grid were installed in the building.

The ceiling tile has a recycled content of about 58-62 percent, saving about 2¼ tons from the landfill; and the ceiling grid has 28 percent recycled content, saving about 4½ tons from the landfill.

The gymnasium has about 5,880 pounds of acoustical wall panels made of aspen wood and cement.

Approximately 45,000 feet of metal-sheathed cable, 10,000 feet of fire alarm cable and 3,000 feet of ¾-inch diameter metal conduit were installed throughout the building.

The sprinkler system installed in the new school has approximately 8,530 feet or 1.6 miles of pipe and 750 sprinkler heads. The sprinkler system holds about 1,370 gallons of water.

Inside the school are 532 student desks, 1,019 student chairs in five different heights,
114 adjustable chairs and 167 activity tables.
The school is also furnished with 98 adult task chairs and 22 adjustable-height tables for computer and art use.

There are 28 round cafeteria tables with attached seats.
