SOUTH PORTLAND – How to combine material technologies with construction practices to dramatically reduce energy costs will be the topic of a lecture at the University of Southern Maine on Wednesday, Oct. 26.
Hank Campbell, the Libra Scholar at USM’s School of Applied Science, Engineering, and Technology, will lead the lecture: “Implementing Construction Technologies to Conserve Energy Resources in Our Commercial and Residential Buildings.”
The lecture is free and open to the public. It begins at 4 p.m. in the Hannaford Lecture Hall of USM’s Abromson Community Education Center, on Bedford Street in Portland.
When Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design Standards are applied appropriately to commercial buildings, they can substantially reduce energy consumption and have radical effects on the life-energy costs of the structure, according to Campbell. During his talk, Campbell will show how integrating material technologies with construction practices during the design, planning and building phases can yield dramatic energy savings.
Campbell is professor emeritus in the Department of Technology at Illinois State University, Normal, Ill., whose teaching and research areas include construction management, quality management and integrated manufacturing systems. Campbell also serves on the National Board of Accreditation with the National Association of Industrial Technology.
