AUGUSTA – Betsy Roper has been appointed to serve on the 24-member Maine Tourism Commission, according to Dann H. Lewis, director of the Maine Office of Tourism, a division of the Department of Economic and Community Development.
She will be serving on the Tourism Commission as a representative of Maine Youth Camping.
Roper, who has worked in the camping industry for more than 30 years, is owner and director, along with her husband, Gar, of OMNI Camp, an accredited children’s camp in Poland Spring.
It was founded originally as the Samantha Smith Worldpeace Camp in 1989. Roper has served on various committees of the American Camp Association and the Maine Youth Camping Association and along with her husband also owns the Flying Lobster Restaurant on Range Pond in Poland Spring. She lives in Freeport.
The Maine Tourism Commission consists of voting members, appointed by the governor to assist and advise the Office of Tourism.
Additionally, nonvoting members from tourism trade organizations and ex-officio members from several state departments work with the commission to further its goals.
