Lewiston – Lewiston’s Community Relations Coordinator Dottie Perham-Whittier and Lewiston Career Center Director Mary LaFontaine were recognized on April 7 by Charles Swett, senior tax specialist for the Internal Revenue Service.

Whittier and LaFontaine were presented with certificates and letters of commendation in regards to co-chairing, for the second year in a row, the Lewiston-Auburn Tax Credit Awareness Coalition’s Earned Income Tax Credit Campaign.

Prior and during the tax season, the campaign encourages eligible low and moderate income workers to claim the Federal Earned Income Tax Credit benefit and provides opportunities for asset building toward enhancing their future.

The two-year effort has resulted in $1,039,531 being put back into the pockets of area families and into the local economy. Community partners for this year included the Cities of Lewiston and Auburn, the Androscoggin County Chamber of Commerce, and the Lewiston Career Center.
