A team assembled to promote Auburn’s new industrial park and its Foreign-Trade Zone expects to announce its final member soon.

The team is trying get the word out about the abundance of new services offered within the industrial park – dubbed the Port of Auburn Industrial Park. Because of its location near the Auburn-Lewiston Municipal Airport, St. Lawrence and Atlantic railway and the Maine Turnpike, the park is well situated to become a transportation and logistics hub.

“We’re here and we’re open for business,” said Ben Hayes of the Lewiston-Auburn Economic Growth Council, one of the team’s agencies. Other team members include the Auburn Business Development Corp, the NAI/Dunham Group realty company and Bisson Transportation.

Among the services planned at the park are loading and unloading rail containers and trucks, Customs services and warehousing. Because the park is in Auburn’s Foreign-Trade Zone, there are additional services to companies that import raw materials and goods from overseas. Additionally, the area has been designated a Pine Tree Zone, making certain tax breaks available to businesses willing to locate within it.

“All the inducements we’ve been putting together are ready now,” said Hayes.

The park got a boost earlier this week when the Auburn City Council approved a $3 million bond for its infrastructure.

The final member of the team – a contractor for construction – is expected to be announced within the week.

Bisson has already made a commitment to the park by announcing its plan to build a $13 million warehouse there and to provide logistics services. The facility is called the Port of Auburn International Distribution Center. Bisson is looking over its client list for those companies that might benefit from the FTZ, said Hayes. The Dunham Group is actively looking for clients to fill the warehouse and park, while the economic development agencies are focusing on promotion.
