LEWISTON – Harvey White and Georgette Sobey recently received their board certification in pedorthics from the Eneslow Pedorthic Institute.

White and Sobey are both associates at Lamey Wellehan Shoes and join co-workers Chris Stanley and Dale Lowell in board certification. There are about 2,000 board certified pedorthists in the world.

A pedorthist works as part of an allied health care team, dispensing footwear and inserts to keep people as mobile as possible. A pedorthist works with podiatrists and fills footwear prescriptions, much like how your pharmacist works in tandem with your family doctor.

Board certified pedorthists are also trained to alter your footwear; adding lifts, supports and other such things. At Lamey-Wellehan in addition to four pedorthists, there are three orthopedic/shoe technicians available, having completed “pedorthic management of the foot” training offered by Ball State University in Muncie, Ind.

Lamey Wellehan’s OSTs are finishing up their training to become board certified.
