Small businesses having 50 or fewer employees are eligible for the incentives. Since its inception in the spring of 2003, the Efficiency Maine Small Business program has issued more than $220,000 in cash incentives for installation of energy efficient electric products.
The incentives, which have ranged from $30 to $10,000, have been awarded to participants for purchases of heating and ventilation systems, motors, lighting, exit signs and motion sensors. Incentives are also available for energy efficient icemakers, electric water heaters, programmable thermostats, and refrigeration.
Installations must be completed by December 31, 2004 to qualify. More than 145 Program Allies have joined in support of the Program.
Program Allies are the vendors, suppliers, contractors, and other organizations that distribute or deliver electric products and services to businesses throughout Maine and have agreed to work with the Efficiency Maine program to help small businesses improve their energy efficiency.
The Efficiency Maine Small Business Programs are administered by the Maine Public Utilities Commission.
