LEWISTON – Androscoggin Home Care and Hospice is contracting with Dr. Elizabeth White to serve as medical director for the agency’s home care program.

She will be available to provide medical consultation and advice to AHCH staff regarding patient home health concerns that are physician related. White will serve as a liaison with local physicians and the larger medical and healthcare community regarding patient care and regulatory issues. In addition, she will be a member of AHCH’s Professional Advisory Committee, assisting with quality assurance and policy and procedure development.

White is a certified medical director, is certified in geriatrics and by the American Board of Family Practice. She has more than 10 years of experience as a medical director in long-term care and home care.

One year ago she returned to Maine from Philadelphia and has been lecturing for St. Mathews Medical School at their campus in Windham and collaborating with the Maine Center on Aging at the University of Maine in Orono. She has started coursework toward a master’s degree in adult education at the University of Southern Maine.

White received her medical degree from the University of Hamburg in Germany and did her residency at Maine Medical Center/Mercy Hospital in Portland.

She was chief physician at Pineland Center for about three years and then moved to Philadelphia to do a fellowship in geriatric medicine at the University of Pennsylvania. For six years prior to her return to Maine, she served as medical director for senior health at Jefferson Health Systems in Philadelphia.

White and her husband, John, reside on their farm in New Gloucester, with the three youngest of their five children, ranging in age from 8 to 24. She is fluent in German and is developing a line of knitting wool using natural dyes, and wool from their own sheep.
