BAILEYVILLE, Maine (AP) — Domtar Corp. is reopening its pulp mill in eastern Maine this month just seven weeks after shutting it down indefinitely because of weak global demand for pulp, high inventory levels and depressed prices.

Montreal-based Domtar said Wednesday production in Baileyville will resume the week of June 22. It is recalling about 300 employees who were put out of work when the mill shut down on May 5.

Domtar said it is reopening the mill because of stronger global demand, tax credits for its use of alternative fuel mixtures, favorable currency exchange rates and improving prices.

The mill is the largest employer in Washington County.
