AUGUSTA — Steve Rowe has announced, by press release, that he filed paperwork with the Maine Commission on Governmental Ethics and Election Practices Tuesday morning to run as a Democratic nominee for the office of Maine governor.
A formal announcement and kick-off will be held at a later date. 
According to the release, Rowe said “I have taken the first step in organizing a campaign for governor. Our challenges are great, but our opportunities are greater. Working together, we can unleash the potential of Maine people and our state’s economy. Over the coming months, I’ll be sharing my plans and listening to the hopes and concerns of people across the state.”
The Rowe campaign will launch a Web site today with more information about the campaign.
According to the release, Rowe served as Maine’s Attorney General from 2001 through 2008. Prior to taking office, he served four terms in the Maine House of Representatives. During his last term, Rowe served as Speaker of the House. Prior to his state government service, Rowe worked for 15 years in the semiconductor and insurance industries in Maine.
Rowe holds a law degree from the University of Maine School of Law, a master’s degree in business administration from the University of Utah, and a bachelor’s degree from the United States Military Academy at West Point. He served as an officer in the U.S. Army and U.S. Army Reserve.
He is the father of four grown children, Lindsay, Robert, Chris and Angela.  Rowe’s wife, Amanda, is a school nurse and a retired Lieutenant Colonel in U.S. Army Reserve.
Rowe currently is counsel to the law firm of Verrill Dana, LLP.
