AUGUSTA, Maine (AP) — In their drive to close out the 2009 regular legislative session, Maine lawmakers still face some big decisions.
One is whether to authorize new state borrowing and, if so, how much.
Gov. John Baldacci originally proposed slightly more than 300 million in new bonding. Since then, Democrats have suggested scaling back a bit to $275 million, while Republicans have suggested less than half that.
The Legislature is scheduled to adjourn by the middle of next week. House and Senate leaders have been hoping to beat that deadline by a few days and conclude before this week is over.
