BIDDEFORD (AP) – An early afternoon fire has destroyed a multifamily dwelling in Biddeford.

Officials said all residents escaped unharmed Tuesday, although one man was transported to the hospital when he had trouble breathing.

Fire Chief Joseph Warren said it took crews about 45 minutes to bring the flames under control. No firefighters were injured.

Warren told the Portland Press Herald that a neighboring building on Kossuth Street was badly damaged and will need repairs before it is habitable.

The cause of the fire was under investigation.
