ELLSWORTH (AP) – A 49-year-old Lamoine man has been handed a 12-year prison term for sexually assaulting a girl over a period of seven years.

Kevin Cobb was convicted last June and was sentenced Monday in Hancock County Superior Court. Justice William Anderson imposed a 22-year sentence but suspended part of it.

According to testimony cited by the Bangor Daily News, the assaults began in 2000.

The abuse continued until the girl’s mother read about it in the girl’s diary and contacted police.

Cobb apologized to the girl at his sentencing but stopped short of admitting guilt.
