BANGOR (AP) – Two University of Maine students were fined $1,000 each in connection with an alcohol-related death of an underaged student.
Tania Riegelman, 21, and 19-year-old Rebecca Kosciszka had a party on Feb. 14 at their Old Town apartment, in which Dyland Lyford, 19 of Milo, died after falling down stairs and fracturing his skull, according to the Bangor Daily News.
The two roommates pleaded guilty to providing a place for minors to consume alcohol.
On Friday, a judge waived a 48-hour prison sentence, saying anything the two women learned about their actions, they learned before the court hearing.
A letter submitted by Lyford’s mother to the court placed no blame on the two women or anyone else at the party.
