WESTBROOK (AP) – A 19-year-old Westbrook man has been arrested at an Army base in Missouri on charges that he sexually assaulted a 15-year-old while home on leave in December.

Brian Nugent was arrested Wednesday at Fort Leonard Wood by U.S. Marshals. He will be brought back to Maine to face charges of gross sexual assault.

Nugent, who is serving with the Marines, was indicted this month by the Cumberland County grand jury.

Westbrook Police Chief William Baker told the Portland Press Herald that Nugent remains in the custody of the U.S. Marshals. The chief said he’s not sure when Nugent will make his initial appearance in Cumberland County Superior Court.
