AUGUSTA (AP) – Penn National Gaming’s request to allow Sunday-morning hours at its Hollywood Slots racino in Bangor appears poised to win state approval.
The state Gambling Control Board did not vote on the request when it met Wednesday. But the four board members all agreed that there’s no basis to deny the request. A vote on whether to allow the slots parlor to open at 8 a.m. instead of noon is expected Feb. 11.
The proposal is drawing opposition from clergy members and the Maine Family Policy Council.
The council president and Bangor Baptist Church pastor, Rev. Jerry Mick, says it’s disappointing and the Sunday-morning hours won’t do Bangor any good. Mick says it’s all about money.
