AUBURN — Robin Dow Senior Citizens will meet at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 9, at the Alden M. Gayton Post 31, American Legion, 426 Washington St. The board of directors will meet at 10 a.m. Bingo will be played following the close of the meeting and a bag lunch.
There were 48 members present at the meeting on Aug. 26, under the direction of President Virginia Houston. Lucy Cowles, membership chairwoman, announced that Birdena Whittle, now a patient at Marshwood Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center, will observe her 104th birthday on Aug. 27. Her son Leigh, caretaker of his mother, will also celebrate a birthday Aug. 30. Both are long time members of Robin Dow Seniors.
Trip chairperson Evelyn Sawin reported that 34 people had already signed up for her foliage trip scheduled for Monday, Oct. 5. The bus will leave American Legion Post 31 at 9 a.m. with passengers to be on the train at 10 a.m. for a 1 1/2 hour ride. A turkey dinner will be served on the train. The $60 cost covers all expenses, including bingo on the bus. Reservations are requested early for seating arrangements. Sawin can be reached at 998-4577, or at Robin Dow meetings. One does not have to be a member of Robin Dow Seniors to go on the trip.
Jean Doyon, who sponsors a variety of bus trips independently, announced that she has a bus going to the Fryeburg Fair on Tuesday, Oct. 6, for a cost of $22 (Senior Day, with free admission). Other trips include one to Indian Head Resort on Wednesday, Sept. 30, for a tribute to Elvis Presley, featuring Stan Jr.’s famous Elvis tribute show; price $55. Also, a four-day, three-night trip, from Nov. 16 to 19, for “Christmas in Lancaster, Penn.” Price is $379 each person and includes bus, lodging, six meals, two Christmas shows and a Hershey chocolate tour. Also, a trip on Thursday, Sept. 8, to Hollywood Slots in Bangor. Cost is $24 each person and includes a free buffet and a $10 voucher. For more information, phone Doyon at 784-5264. Those having birthdays in August were acknowledged.
Attendance prize winners were Kay Koss and Lee Koss; pot of gold, Midge Demers, Russell Howe and Jean Doyon; mystery prize, Clara Hahn, Hope Telow and Lucien Marcoux.
After the meeting and a bag lunch, bingo was played.
