PORTLAND (AP) – More Democrats than Republicans will be running for the Maine Legislature this fall, giving Democrats a numbers advantage as they try to retain control of House and Senate.

A list provided by the secretary of state’s office indicates Democrats will run for all 186 seats while Republicans will not field candidates in 11 of the contests. For Democrats, that helps to offset the fact that 13 more Democrats than Republicans are barred from re-election because of term limits.

Monday was the deadline for candidates to file for county, state and federal offices to get on the June 10 primary ballot.

Independents still have more time to file.
