AUGUSTA (AP) – Gov. John Baldacci sent Christmas greetings to Mainers in his weekly radio address, saying he hopes people remember what’s really important as the holiday draws closer.
The governor says it’s not the presents or food, the tree or the lights, but rather the joy of family and friends, expectations of better times ahead and knowing that there is love and kindness in the world.
Baldacci also said that with winter setting in early, it’s a good idea to check on neighbors.
In the Republican response, state Rep. David Savage of Falmouth put politics aside and called on Mainers to remember those less fortunate. Savage said people should also remember the troops overseas.
