LEVANT (AP) – A Maine man probably doesn’t consider himself lucky after a spider caused him to lose control of his SUV, which was demolished in the crash. But at least it wasn’t the new Volvo XC90 he’d just won in a contest.

James Lee, 28, of Levant, told police he lost control of his 2003 Lincoln Navigator after being startled by a spider that got into the vehicle. While trying to get it out of the SUV, his vehicle smashed into a tree Wednesday morning.

Lee walked away with a bloody nose caused by the air bag.

It could’ve been worse. He wasn’t driving his brand-new Volvo XC90 because he hasn’t yet taken delivery, according to Darling’s Volvo in Bangor.

Last month, Lee was one of 11 people from across the country to win a new vehicle from McDonald’s, the Bangor Daily News reported. After finishing a Big Mac extra value meal, he got the winning game piece for the “Pirates of the Caribbean” game.
