WISCASSET (AP) – A Westbrook man who robbed a bank and led police on a chase in which an officer was seriously injured was sentenced Friday to 16 years in prison.

Michael Kelley was sentenced in Lincoln County Superior Court in Wiscasset under a plea agreement in which he will serve 16 years of a 24-year sentence.

In court, Kelley apologized for his actions and said he was under the influence of drugs when he and an accomplice robbed a bank in Newcastle on Jan. 17. During a chase through several towns in Lincoln County, they rammed their stolen pickup truck into two police cruisers, injuring two officers, one of them seriously.

Under the plea agreement, prosecutors dropped a charge of aggravated attempted murder against Kelley.

Charges are pending against Stephen Otis, who is also from Westbrook. Otis, who is free on bail, has requested a change of venue for his trial.
