PORTLAND (AP) – Homicide investigators planned to meet Wednesday to discuss what charges should be brought in connection with the fatal stabbing of a Waldoboro man.
Amy Dugas was arrested after Friday’s slaying of Mark Dugas. Although no charges have been filed, she will not be released because she violated bail conditions for earlier, unrelated offenses, attorneys said Tuesday.
“We have information that Mr. Dugas died at the hands of Amy,” said Deputy Attorney General William Stokes, who oversees the state’s homicide cases. “What we don’t know are the circumstances that led to his death.”
The attorney general’s office said it needs more time to find out what led to Dugas’ death.
Police answering a domestic violence call discovered his body in the entryway of his next-door neighbor’s home.
On Tuesday, Amy Dugas, 35, pleaded innocent in Lincoln County Superior Court to charges stemming from a February incident in Nobleboro.
Last month, she was indicted on charges of assaulting a police officer, domestic assault, criminal mischief to a police cruiser, and refusal to sign a criminal summons.
Dugas also made an initial appearance Tuesday at Wiscasset District Court to face charges of assault on a police officer and violation of bail connected to the February incident. She had been free on $1,500 bail since her arrest.
Judge John Atwood agreed to the district attorney’s motion to revoke bail, because of several violations including possession of a dangerous weapon, a knife, alcohol use, and failure to undergo counseling.
Dugas will be held at the county jail until her older charges come up for trial later this year, said District Attorney Geoffrey Rushlau said Tuesday.
“Potentially, that could be several months,” Rushlau said. “We only have court sometimes every other month, and sometimes every third or fourth month.”
Dugas’ court-appointed lawyer, William Avantaggio, said she is upset and worried about her two children, ages seven and 11, who are staying with family.
