YARMOUTH, Maine (AP) – Investigators with the Maine State Police and Yarmouth Police Department are investigating the shooting death of a man who was attacked in the parking lot outside the city’s information center.

Police cordoned of the area surrounding the Yarmouth Information Center on Route 1 after the shooting around 4 p.m. Monday. The man, whose name has not been released, was taken to Maine Medical Center in Portland. He died in the hospital.

State police interviewed several witnesses who heard shooting in the parking lot where the man was sitting in his SUV, said Maine Department of Transportation spokesman Steve McCausland.

Police were looking for two men and a small black car with possible front end damage. The car was last seen heading south on Route 1 following the shooting.

The name of the deceased man will be released after relatives are notified, McCausland said.
