KENNEBUNKPORT (AP) – Authorities on Friday recovered the body of a Kennebunk man who drowned in the waters off Goose Rocks Beach.
Gerhard Ellenberg, 63, apparently left a note Thursday night saying he was going swimming and never returned, said Sgt. Steven Shisler of the Kennebunkport Police Department.
A search began at 9:15 a.m. Friday after Ellenberg did not show up to work, Shisler said.
Ellenberg’s car was found parked at the beach, and less than an hour into the search, an aircraft pilot spotted his floating body about 1,000 yards off the beach.
The drowning is still under investigation, police said.
