WATERFORD — The Waterford Historical Society will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 10, at the Wilkins House, next to the Congregational Church in Waterford Flat.
The topic for the meeting will be road construction, with information about the earliest roads and road-building techniques, as well as the newest. Speaker will be Thomas A. Marcotte, Global Information Systems (GIS) Systems analyst at the Maine Department of Transportation, who will talk about what goes into the preparation for road building today.
Marcotte has a degree in history from the University of Maine at Farmington and an MA in geography from the University of Montana.
Potluck refreshments will be served.
The society will celebrate the 60th anniversary of the building of Waterford Memorial School at the school at 7 p.m. Oct. 8. Students, teachers, parents, alumnae and present or past school board members are invited to attend and reminisce about their experiences at the school.
