JAY – Voters approved all but two articles Monday pertaining to a $6 million municipal budget and a $9.7 million school budget for 2009-10. Both incumbent selectmen kept their seats.

The rejected articles pertained to donation requests from outside agencies.

Residents voted not to raise $2,000 for Community Concepts in a 231-199 vote. They also voted 220-211 not to raise $1,000 for Maine’s Paper & Heritage Museum.

The closest vote was on Article 7 that voters approved 214-212 to update the town’s Shoreland Zoning Ordinance to meet new state guidelines.

Incumbent Selectman Steve McCourt won a second term on the Board of Selectmen garnering 266 votes to Deric DiGiuseppe’s 143.

Incumbent Selectman Amy Pineau-Gould retained her seat, obtaining 353 votes to write-in candidate David Belanger’s 40 votes.

Jay School Committee members Tammy Dwinal-Shufelt and Judy Diaz were uncontested and received 334 votes and 357 votes, respectively.

Residents voted 237-200 to validate the $9.7 million school budget, which reflects a $482,234 decrease from the current $10.2 million budget.

Most of the votes on the municipal budget passed by an overwhelming margin.

The $6 million budget reflects a $61,619 increase over this year’s budget. After factoring in $3.04 million of anticipated revenues, the net budget would be about $3.04 million.

The only article that appeared close was the one pertaining to the building inspector/deputy code officer which passed 238-206.
