A fire did an estimated $10,000 damage Wednesday afternoon to the home of Gary Choate at 317 Intervale Road in Jay, Fire Rescue Chief Scott Shink said.

Choate’s son noticed the fire and reported it. Choate, his son and grandson escaped uninjured, he said. There was no insurance. The fire is believed to have started inside a wall around a metal chimney that went from the interior of the house where a wood stove is located to the outside of the building. Fire was contained to the attic area and minimal damage was done to the interior in the living room, he said.

Firefighters from several departments responded to assist. The fire was out within 15 minutes.
