NEW VINEYARD – One of Lenny Ellis’ mini-log homes, complete with furniture, is on its way to the White House in Washington, D.C.

Ellis, 70, who has multiple sclerosis, builds the homes out of wooden dowels.

No. 177 was sent out to President Barack Obama’s daughters, Malia, 10, and Sasha, 7, on Wednesday.

Ellis numbers, signs and dates each house and builds custom furniture for each one.

He wanted to give the president’s daughters a one-of-a-kind house, but didn’t know how to do it.

He and his wife, Carol, contacted Gov. John Baldacci’s Office and got an address. Then the president’s secretary e-mailed an address for them to send the doll house.

They told the Ellises it will take a little bit of time to know if the house arrived because it needs to be checked out for security purposes.

“We were very pleased,” Carol Ellis said. “I hope the girls enjoy it. I think they will.”

It is not only special for them, Lenny Ellis said; the doll house represents a product built in Maine.
