LIVERMORE – Town officials are doing some research to see if there is a wind developer interested in erecting wind mills to generate electrical power at Memorial Forest on Poland Hill.
Approval of plans would be up to voters.
Code Enforcement Officer Richard Marble had asked the select board previously if members were interested in exploring the option, board Administrative Assistant Kurt Schaub said Wednesday. The board gave him the approval to explore the option.
One developer has responded favorably so far, Schaub said.
The town acquired two farms in the early 1900s for non payment of taxes. Together there are about 100 acres of land.
Poland Hill Road is off of Hathaway Hill Road, which is off Crash Road, and it can also be accessed by Round Pond Road, off Route 4.
Developers may be interested in talking to other property owners in that area, if the site turns out to be feasible, Schaub said.
“Naturally the town cannot negotiate on behalf of any private property owner, and any use of town property for this purpose would have to be approved at a town meeting,” Schaub said.
One abutting property owner has come forward and said he would be interested in talking to developers, Schaub said.
“An advantage of the site is there are not a lot of people that would object to seeing wind mills there,” Schaub said, because there are not a lot of people that live in the area.
