CARRABASSETT VALLEY – An attempt to leave without paying the bill resulted in a trip to jail for a Georgia man.
Ronnie Granier, 42, of Grantville, Ga., was arrested on a charge of theft of services around 12:30 a.m. Wednesday after he and his wife left the Carrabassett Valley area and were later stopped by Wilton police officer Douglas Geis, said Scott Nichols, Carrabassett Valley police chief.
Nichols said the couple attempted to leave the Carrabassett Inn after paying for only two of the five nights they stayed there. The couple left owing the inn $256.
Inn owner Jeff Chase contacted police, who alerted other police departments to watch for Granier’s Lexus with temporary Florida plates, issuing a bulletin through Franklin County Sheriff’s Office.
Geis spotted and stopped the Lexus then took Granier to the detention center in Farmington, where Sgt. Randy Walker of Carrabassett Valley police arrested Granier on the charge of theft of services.
