FARMINGTON – Republican Lance Harvell of Farmington won the House District 89 seat in a special election held Tuesday in Industry and Farmington.
Harvell polled 1,235 votes in both towns while Dennis Haszko, a Farmington Democrat, drew 617.
Harvell sought the District 89 seat three times before, narrowly losing to then state Rep. Janet Mills, a Democrat.
Mills was elected as Maine’s Attorney General by the Legislature in January, leaving her House seat vacant.
Farmington voters gave Harvell 1,124 votes to Haszko’s 533, while Industry voters chose Harvell over Haszko, 111-84.
Both candidates called the economy the biggest issue faced by the Legislature.
Harvell, 45, works at Verso Paper Co. in Jay and is married with two children.
