WILTON – Practical tips and advice on saving energy and money will be offered Saturday during the Wilton Community Energy Forum.
The forum, held from 9 to 11 a.m. at Academy Hill School, will cover things such as what people can do on their own as well as lifestyle changes like adding a sweater rather than turning up the heat, said Irv Faunce, director of Program Operations at the Western Maine Community Action.
“It’s Energy 101,” he said.
Members of the Energy and Housing Resources Program of WMCA will present do-it-yourself suggestions on ways to weatherize a home, reduce energy consumption, change habits and live comfortably while saving money.
Presenters Randy Burgess from WMCA and Gary LaGrange from CCI also plan to demonstrate a blower door that measures drafts in homes, he said.
To help communities provide forums, an energy resource team that started meeting in June has created a toolbox that would allow people to host a community forum and ways to do it effectively, said team member Lisa Park Laflin, executive director of the United Way of the Tri-Valley Area.
“We are trying to build the capacity of communities to do it themselves,” Laflin said.
The energy team wants to support and build from local community efforts, she said.
The team consists of members of Franklin Emergency Management, Franklin Access, the Healthy Community Coalition, WMCA, the United Way and Western Mountains Alliance as well as about 40 community members, she said.
The public is welcome to attend Saturday’s forum.
